The SAR Rifle , .30-06 calibre, RUGER, Model M77 is designated for use by Search and Rescue Technicians (SAR Techs) and Aircrews.


The SAR Rifle, is a compact survival rifle in .30-06 calibre. It is a bolt action, magazine fed single shot rifle that has a three position manually applied safety.


The standard Ruger M77 Mk II rifle has been modified by shortening the barrel and hinging the buttstock so that it folds forward, along the left side of the stock, for storage in confined areas. The buttstock also holds an additional 6 rounds of ammunition. The rifle is issued with a special case that is designed to attach to the SAR Tech’s parachute harness.
