Mount HMG, .50 cal. (Associated with TOW Vehicles)
The Mount HMG, .50 cal is a component assembly designed to support the .50 cal machine gun. It is primarily associated with the TOW equipped vehicle support assembly. This machine gun mount holds the .50 cal machine gun and ammunition, providing the capability to elevate, traverse and depress the weapon.
The Mount HMG, .50 cal has a stepped type pintle that fits any regular stepped pintle socket. The mount is equipped with two mounting pins that secure the weapon. A travel lock pin and a tie bar lock the mount and the weapon in the traveling position. The general purpose mount positions the weapon further forward. This moves the pivot point rearward of the balance point so the mount is equipped with an equillibrator spring to counter balance the weight of the weapon. The major component assemblies are (1) Cradle, (2) Pintle and (3) Ammunition Box Carrier.
