I read a few articles lately, I'm trying to determine if they are connected. The first was published in the "Toronto Sun" I believe, the article was about the Serviceability level of the Coyote in Kosovo/Bosnia (in particular the Chain Gun)the Canadian Battalion Commander complained that the level of Serviceability was suspect on arrival in country. In the second article, published in a Defence news letter, the Canadian Army was purchasing 80 of these Chain Guns (M242 if memory serves). Could anyone shed some light on this...? |

We also need to find 4 tires and some of our favourite coloured army paint. As well I am looking for details or bits and pieces for the accessories on these things. Any help would be appreciated. I will be making up a brass plate for each of the guns with the EME badge engraved in as well as the trade name and date of refurb. I have also been asked to see if by the serial numbers we can find out where these guns were in action (if they were) anyone have an idea where to start on that. We are the provider to DND of products such as Heckler & Koch Sig and many more. The job would consist of basic maintenance, registration, receiving and shipping of Military, Police Small Arms.The handling of more sophisticated products such as Night Vision and Laser products. The pay would not be that great at the beginning,(This is Life in the Civilian Industry) but once prooven, there is room for salary increase or benefits. This apply specially to people who are about to get out with a pension or are retired. If we do hire, the job would be permanent after a standard period of performance observation. With this company you are either in or out. The challenges are a daily affair. The region is Longueuil, south shore of Montreal. This again is a probe. The company has grown and is still growing, there are big chances that openings might come up for additional 421 Technicians this year. Being bilingual would be an asset. My official title is Course Designer and Instructor Turret and Gun Mechanic Conversion Course 90mm. I have been involved in this course from the development stage. This included reviewing the in-country Training Needs Analysis, designing the scalars, the POI and finally the Instructor guides. With the final aim being the presentation of an entire Course Training Package to the Qatar Armed Forces. I must also confess that I deserted the weapons trades and became a Fitter Marine Engines. I was a soldier apprentice in 12 platoon 1957-59 and was originally a small arms tech. I do see one mistake in your description. The joining of the trades happened many years earlier than 1968 described in your site. I took my Grp 3 course in 1963 and this was as a wpns. tech. I was on re-build of Centurion tanks at 215 Wksp in 1964. I also was posted to 1 RCHA in Germany in 1967 and was there when the first M109's were delivered. The only problem was that they forgot to send any trained Wpns techs and we had quite a time trying to figure out what to do. I believe our first round was fired from a lanyard that was about 1 mile long. We had to rely on the Brit REME types from Dortmund and an American Civvy who was from the Proving Grounds in Maryland who happened to be in Germany on holidays in our sector for some expertise. I left the forces out of Shilo Manitoba in 1970 as I was sick and tired of the Herbies and there was a chance I would be posted to Gagetown with the Arty school and I had had enough of that group. I left as a Corporal and then joined the reserves in Calgary and was a WO but my other job as a policeman sort of interfered and i had to give it up. I hope your site wakes up some of my old classmates, I only see 1 fellow who was with me in Germany with the Herbies. |
