RIFLE C7 5.56MM & CARBINE 5.56MM C8

C7A1
C8 Carbine

These weapons are progressive developments of the US M-16 family with modifications to suit them for Canadian service. Both weapons fire 5.56 mm ammunition as used by other NATO nations. They replaced the FN C1 rifle and the C1 sub-machine-gun. They feature automatic and semi-automatic firing capability. The C8 carbine is basically a C7 with a shorter barrel and telescoping buttstock. The carbine is intended for use by the crews of armored fighting vehicles.
