7.62mm subcal device for the 84mm Carl Gustave

The sub-calibre adapter FFV 553B is a training aid for the 84mm RCL Carl Gustaf with the possibility of simulating backblast.

The adapter is externally similar to the shape of the 84mm HEAT FFV 551 round. The loading, arming and firing operations are the same as when firing service ammunition.

To simulate backblast there is a backblast charge, to be inserted into the base of the adapter after the bolt has been inserted.

The ammunition for the sub-calibre adapter consists of three components (a)7.62mm tracer round, (b)backblast charge and (c)cap with holder. The projectile and propelling charge of the 7.62mm tracer round have been adapted to match the ballistics of the 84mm HEAT round FFV 551. The nose of the projectile is white with the rear half of the cartridge case painted black. The backblast charge produces flash and sound and is used to approximate firing of live 84mm ammunition.
